Kuami Eugene has rubbished statements that he planned with legendary highlife musician Amakye Dede to crown him the ‘King of Highlife’ at 20th edition of the Vodafone Ghana New music Awards.
Amakye Dede crowned the gifted younger artiste, who won ‘Highlife Artiste of the Year’, as the long run of Ghana’s highlife genre during the function.
Amakye Dede blessed him as a father would do to his beloved son and gave him a golden crown to depict how special the gesture intended to him.
Some Ghanaians do not seem content about the gesture.
The gesture is stated to volume to disrespect to other highlife artistes, who either emerged or are making waves than Kuami Eugene in the previous two decades.
Some thought Bisa K’dei deserved the honour than Kuami Eugene. Other individuals went said the entire crowning incident was prepared to hoopla Kuami Eugene.
Talking to JoyNews, Kuami Eugene refuted the rumours, outlining that it was never ever planned, adding that, it alternatively served as a blessing to him.
“It was a very good emotion and performing with Amakye Dede was a blessing. With the crown, it is also a blessing on my existence. I think it is a adverse vibe to say he was forced. Why cannot we recognize goodness when it happens,”? the ‘Angela’ hitmaker queried.
Kuami Eugene, who was not bothered by criticisms, explained he deserved the praise from the veteran highlife musician, Amakye Dede because he had worked tough about the years.
“I’ve won ‘Highlife Artiste of the Year’ back-to-back. Allow me say that by itself proves I am accomplishing highlife nicely. I do dwell performances also and if I have been crowned Highlife act of the new era, I do not think there is something negative about it,” he explained.
