KNUST students establish gasoline leakage detector that operates via SMS notify

A few students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Engineering (KNUST) have designed a gasoline leakage detector that operates via SMS inform.

The know-how aims at facilitating early detection of gasoline leakage and avert the destruction that will come with this kind of a leakage.

A Stage 100 Chemical Engineering scholar, Convenience Benewaa Osei Owusu, led the initiative.

Jointly with her close friends, Safianu Inunnarm and Barikisu Nasiru, each Geological Engineering students, she set to do the job immediately after dropping a buddy in a gasoline explosion.

“There are a good deal of hearth outbreaks in Ghana ensuing from a gas explosion. Recently just one of our mates died as a final result of that and we thought there must be a formidable resolution,” observed Convenience Benewaa Osei Owusu.

The gadget is geared up with a sensor which detects gasoline concentration and triggers a buzzer to warn neighbours.

It has a GPS and GSM with the ability to consist of, at the very least, three cellphone numbers.

These instantly ship messages every time there is gasoline leakage.

“The GPS and GSM model will mail a concept that there’s fuel leakage. And you can add fire support figures to it which is essential,” the leader of the team explained.

Ghana has, given that 2014, recorded, at least, nine important incidents of fuel explosion nationwide.

Six of them occurred in the Larger Accra Area and a single every single in Takoradi in Western, Kasoa in Central and Kumasi Ashanti Regions.

Reports indicate 35% of the more than 300 burns circumstances reported at the Korle Bu Instructing Medical center in 2017 were being from gas explosions.
