Federal government to engage groups opposing UNIPASS undertaking

Minister for Trade and Marketplace, Alan Kyerematen, has disclosed that government will engage institutions and groups that truly feel the UNIPASS task at the port will have an effect on the success of the Continental Cost-free Trade Arrangement (AfCFTA).

The Minister described that this engagement system will seek to tackle all considerations and close the stress concerning stakeholders at the ports about the new integrated port administration procedure.

Alan Kyerematen explained to Joy Enterprise that trade facilitation was an important portion of the AfCFTA deal and hence the achievements of the UNIPASS deal was paramount.

President of the Ghana Institute of freight forwarders (GIFF), Edward Akrong, has stated the new UNIPASS method has recorded only 1 transaction due to the fact its operationalisation by his customers.

In accordance to him, this is a clear indicator that the federal government is not well prepared to implement the new program.
