Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George, is unenthused by the method in which he was dealt with by the Speaker, Mike Oquaye, following his choice to remain away from proceedings.

The MP experienced, on March 24, composed to the Speaker communicating his absence from the Household above threats of Covid-19.

In that letter, Mr George, amid other things, spelled out that the determination was borne out of a conviction that Parliament is “failing to training its truly supposed function in crisis times like this. I hold the strongest conviction that we are pandering whilst the flames that might engulf the Republic are being stoked.”

In accordance to him, measures taken towards safeguarding legislators and other staff in Parliament from the novel coronavirus, left a lot to be wished-for.

The Ningo Prampram MP added that he will not “to danger exposure to the virus by coming to Parliament each and every day just to occur and do the job on payments that are of no unexpected emergency nature and do not relate to coronavirus or to occur and sit and approve financial loans and tax waivers for private firms, a lot of of which are foreign.”

Prof Mike Oquaye, right after confirming receipt of the letter designed some comments which seem to have struck a nerve of the MP.

“I advise you with, with deep regret that I have obtained a letter, a castigating letter, from Hon. Sam George, MP for Ningo-Prampram Constituency, which states he simply cannot attend on this Property again for the reason that sittings of this Household are just a waste of his time as the sittings at this time are only to approve financial loans. This is unfortunate,” Prof Mike Oquaye advised the House on April 4, 2020.

In his letter signed April 6, 2020, Sam George believes these assertions have no foundation and expressed shock at the “unfortunate” conclusions drawn by the Speaker of Parliament.

“My respect for you and your place of work does not erode my proper and privilege to disagree with you and talk reality to you when you are completely wrong. You peddled falsehoods when you manufactured individual reference to me in your closing remarks on Saturday,” Sam George explained.

Similar George more stated that this shift is a “calculated try to malign his person by creating wrong claims that you (Speaker) are not able to defend to bring my popularity to public opprobrium.”

The Ningo-Prampram MP stands by his earlier place of disinterest at this time for “deliberation of Expenditures that experienced no bearing in any way on the Covid-19 pandemic and are of no emergency mother nature.”

“You have blocked Members of Parliament from producing statements on the floor of the Residence similar to the coronavirus, you have refused to approve urgent queries to sector Ministers from the Residence on coronavirus,” Mr George’s letter go through, including that: “the Dwelling has sat aloof whilst the liberties of the citizenry have been eroded by a slew of Govt Instruments aimed at extending the overbearing powers of the Executive.”

Sam Georges also explained that he took the possibility away from Parliamentary sittings to aid the district wellness directorate in his constituency to intensify the struggle to have the unfold of the novel coronavirus in the nation.
