Morgues in Ghana getting choked as ban on social gathering triggers suspension of funerals

Considering that President Nana Akufo-Addo announced a ban on community gathering and a restriction on motion for inhabitants in some pieces of the region, social actions have come to a standstill.

Though government has stated that these directions are to prevent a unfold of the coronavirus which Ghana has confirmed 636 circumstances, these directives are now leading to wellbeing pitfalls in some hospitals.

At the Pantang Hospital in the Better Accra Area, wellness authorities are interesting to Ghanaians who have useless family in the morgue to arrive for the bodies.

They say the refusal of people today to keep private burials for these relations has left the morgue choked. According to them, bodies are now remaining piled on major of each other and the facility will quickly be unable to accept new arrivals.

“There has been minimal activity in terms of people coming for bodies. Of training course, as for loss of life, men and women continue on to die so the range of bodies coming in has not altered. So what has occurred now is that the morgue is currently entire,” Deputy Administrator at the Pantang Healthcare facility, Collins Kessie explained.

As stressing as this may perhaps feel, the circumstance is identical at the Bono Regional Medical center in Sunyani.

Although Pantang Healthcare facility is piling bodies on top rated of every single other, administration at the Bono Regional Medical center say the morgue has achieved its complete potential.

They are also blaming the directive on social distancing and the ban on general public gathering for the development.

Management say it is unclear why families have refused to arrive for their lifeless kin when the President clearly exempted private burials.

They believe that the enjoy for massive funerals as is the everyday norm in Ghana is the explanation for the holdback.

President Akufo-Addo through the announcement of the different directives gave a handful of exemptions which involved the keeping of a private burial for the dead, but with an attendance of 25 individuals or less.

He also announced the lockdown of Bigger Accra, Kumasi, section of Central Location and Tema, which signifies people in the other areas can maintain funeral for the dead but with only 25 men and women in attendance.

But inhabitants carry on to set a hold on the pickup and the subsequent burial of their departed liked ones on hold.

“The 7 days in advance of the lockdown, there ended up families scheduled to arrive for their lifeless family but they identified as it off. All funerals have been suspended.
“But people should know that many others are dying from other sicknesses apart from Covid-19 and we would need to have to keep them at the morgue.

“If men and women really don’t occur for the ones that have been in our possession for long, we would have no other choice but to check with family members to consider their lifeless family members residence instantly they die,” Healthcare Director for the Regional Clinic, Dr. Emmanuel Kofi Amponsah mentioned.

Other worries remaining raised by the two hospitals is the effect the delay in coming for lifeless kin is obtaining on revenue technology.
