TOR Managing Director, Asante Berko, resigns


Beleaguered Running Director of the Tema Oil Refinery, Asante Berko has resigned.

Mr. Asante Berko tendered in his resignation to the President, Nana Akufo-Addo, on Wednesday, April 15.

A assertion from the presidency announcing the president’s acceptance of the resignation of Mr. Berko read through:

“The president of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has on Wednesday 15th April, 2020, acquired the resignation from place of work of Mr. Asante Berko as Handling Director of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR). This was right after he submitted his resignation letter dated, 15th April, 2020 to the president.”

“President Akufo-Addo has recognized Mr. Asante Berko’s resignation, and duly notified the Board of Administrators of TOR of this improvement. The President wished him perfectly in his upcoming endeavours,” the assertion concluded.

The ex-Goldman banker has been cited in a civil go well with by the Securities and Exchange Commission in the US for the alleged bribes.

The US SEC statements in its lawsuit submitted on Monday that, Asante Berko, a former executive at the Goldman’s London subsidiary, facilitated up to $4.5million to assist a Turkish firm to get a contract for a electricity plant.

The claimed deal was approved in 2015, during Ghana’s serious energy crisis.

On Tuesday, Mr. Berko, in a reaction to the allegations which have acquired wide media coverage, reported in a release Tuesday that the SEC’s statements are “false.”

“I point out categorically that I have not paid any bribes to governing administration officers, Members of Parliament nor any officers of Parliament,” taken care of.
