Member of Parliament (MP) for Klottey-Korley Constituency Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings
Member of Parliament (MP) for Klottey-Korley Constituency, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has called on President Akufo-Addo to probe the alleged partisan distribution of food intended for persons influenced the partial lockdown.
This follows assertions by the Ministry of Gender, Youngsters and Social Security debunking previously statements by the MP describing them as unfounded.
“The MP’s allegation that men and women are currently being questioned to show party cards ostensibly by officers distributing Authorities foodstuff aid goods is a full fabrication. In fact, the distribution of the food items items to the Kayayei [head porters] and the vulnerable is getting carried out by the officials of the Ministry of Gender, Youngsters and Social Protection (MoGCSP) in collaboration with the AMA [Accra Metropolitan Assembly], NADMO [National Disaster Management Organisation] and the Fifth Infantry Battalion of the Ghana Armed Forces,” the Ministry said in a press release signed by Cynthia Morrison.
In a rebuttal, Dr Agyeman-Rawlings who doubles as a member of the NDC’s Covid-19 workforce reiterated that, “the media carries on to report very similar circumstances of seeming partisanship in foods distribution across quite a few lockdown constituencies” a problem she reported was “complementary to stories from lots of Ghanaians who have shared their ordeal on social media.”
She has, however, asked for that President Akufo-Addo conducts “credible investigations into the seeming politicisation of food items distribution in this time of crisis.”

Reaction TO THE MINISTER FOR GENDER AND SOCIAL Defense IN Regard OF HER Assertion Regarding Food items DISTRIBUTION IN KLOTTEY-KORLE AND Beyond
My focus has been drawn to a assertion by the Minister responsible for Gender and Social Security, Mrs. Cynthia Mamle Morrison in which she tends to make strenuous but unconvincing attempts to handle the disturbing occurrences concerning distribution of food stuff in these tough situations.
For the history, I wish to reiterate that the COVID-19 pandemic has designed a big humanitarian crisis which does not warrant partisanship in extending help to the vulnerable.
It is critical to remember that long just before these of us in Klottey-Korle arrived to terms with what seems to be unconscionable concentrations of partisan discrimination in the distribution of meals in our constituency, various of these types of stories experienced been widely documented. In truth, Ghanaweb put out a video report of a girl who had been denied food stuff because she could not create an NPP card as significantly back again as 10th April, 2020. The NDC Parliamentary Prospect for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Mr. John Dumelo experienced to track down the stated lady and make donations to her following that report.
My colleague MP in the Ablekuma South Constituecy Dr. Oko Vanderpuije had to also go public about how food items meant for the poor was staying distributed in NPP motor vehicles less than the direct supervision of the NPP prospect for that constituency. Dr. Oko Vanderpuije ahead of talking to the push about the unfortunate advancement had called Mrs. Cynthia Mamle Morrison on telephone to carry the matter to her recognize and to sign up his protest.
The media proceeds to report very similar predicaments of seeming partisanship in foods distribution across many lockdown constituencies. This is complimentary to reviews from a lot of Ghanaians who have shared their ordeal on social media.
This improvement is unGhanaian and inhumane and has led Civil Culture Organisations this kind of as the Heart for Girls in Politics (ACWP) to issue statements a few days ago condemning the practice.
Respectfully, I was expecting the Minister to have acted statesmanly by participating me to guide her with evidence from the floor. At least she could have promised to launch an investigation into all these experiences to establish the veracity or if not of the popular promises. But somewhat sad to say, she selected the path of name contacting and participating in previous fashioned political shenanigans. A path I refuse to tread.
I simply call on the President, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to institute credible investigations into the seeming politicization of food stuff distribution in this time of disaster. My constituents and I stand all set to cooperate and to current unimpeachable proof ahead of such an investigative panel.
May well we study to eschew useless partisanship in this defining time period in the historical past of humankind and arrive together in legitimate unity to gain the war versus COVID-19 and to safeguard the susceptible adversely impacted in these apocalyptic situations.
Signed,
Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings
[MP, Klottey-Korley Constituency]
