Authorities has waived all demurrages and lease rates incurred by importers and all other ports end users during the Covid-19 partial lockdown among March 30 and April 19, as aspect of a reduction deal for shippers.
The Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) has, hence, reminded importers, cargo owners, freight forwarders and all other ports buyers that any even more delays in clearing their goods, would not be coated by the waiver.
Head of Freight and Logistics at the GSA, Fred Asiedu-Dartey, through a media encounter in Accra, said the GSA had held a number of engagements with delivery lines, transport agents and importers to reveal the penalty waivers next agitations by some gamers in the delivery business.
He expressed the Authority’s unwaivering commitment to marketing and shielding the passions of shippers at all time.
He mentioned subsequent a conference held on April 24, MAERSK Ghana Confined, a leading container terminal operator, and Meridian Ports Services, agreed to waive off all demurrages and lease rates incurred by importers throughout the lockdown.
The directive for the suspension of all applicable time-connected penalties in the clearance of cargo at the ports was issued by the Transport Minister, Kwaku Ofori-Asiama powerful, March 30 to April 19, 2020.
Mr Asiedu-Dartey was of the viewpoint that the legislation regulating the functions of shippers in the place really should be reviewed and amended to be in tune with up to date shipping and delivery activities globally.
