Law enforcement ‘unclear’ about charging Akuapem chiefs for defying ban on public gatherings

Police in the eastern location are unclear about charging chiefs who flouted law limiting social distancing directives to put in the new paramount main of Akuapem.

The police are nonetheless to take a decision on the chiefs who had been arrested and granted bail final Friday.

The Akropong District Police Commander, Stephen Tetteh informed Pleasure News he is not selected when the case will be dealt with.

The police in the area arrested 18 folks folks around the weekend in individual incidents for violating the ban on social distancing.

On Friday, April 1, the Akropong district law enforcement command apprehended four chiefs for their roles in the installation of the new Akuapehene, Oseadeyo Kwesi Akuffo.

The chiefs, in accordance to the law enforcement disregarded the ban on community gatherings and social distancing directives.

The law enforcement a working day following the arrest of the chiefs also apprehended 14 persons for doing puberty rites at Sawer, a suburb of Somanya for same offences.

For breaching the same ban on social gatherings, they will be set right before court on Tuesday, May 5.

But the police are not specific when the Akropong suspects will be billed and prosecuted.

Outlining their rationale, Superintendent Stephen Tetteh stated, “they are chiefs and have a big subsequent so if we are not cautious the problem will get out of hands”.

Having said that, the Somanya District Police manager, DSP Isaac Otsin, explained to Pleasure Information, the Somanya suspects would be set right before courtroom on May well , 5.
