Aspiring MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon John Dumelo suggests Lydia Alhassan received the constituency’s seat with sympathy vote which won’t take place again.
The actor and businessman reported with the passing of the then legislator Emmanuel Boakye Agyarko, who was her husband, the voters sympathised with her by voting her to switch him.
“The next factor is that, it was a by-election and there were no other elections taking place about so you will uncover a whole lot of politicians descending to help her,” he told Gifty Andoh on JoyNews.
He said the dynamics for the 2020 election is distinct from what happened in the course of the bye-election.
In January 2019 she contested and received the parliamentary seat for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency.
She won with 68.80 per cent of the valid votes forged though the other candidates, Kwasi Delali Brempong of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) polled 30.52 for every cent, William Kofi Dowokpor of the Progressive People’s Occasion (PPP) and Clement Boadi of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) polled .58 and .10 for each cent respectively.
When questioned to protect his claim of sympathy votes, Mr Dumelo who is contesting on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress mentioned, “that’s what the NPP were being indicating and absolutely everyone is aware of that it is the truth on the floor.”
The actor is certain that he is the following in line to symbolize the individuals of the constituency in Parliament and he will slug it out with the incumbent MP.
“Time for sympathy vote is over now,” he reported.
