4 busted for allegedly killing elephant at Sissala East

Four individuals have been arrested by law enforcement for their involvement in the brutal killing of an elephant at Vamboi in the Sissala East District of the Upper West Area.

The suspects, who are believed to be hunters, reportedly shot and eradicated the tusks of the center-aged male elephant on 13 April 2020.

The suspects, whose names had been withheld because of to the ongoing investigations into the incident, have been apprehended adhering to a joint procedure by a staff of staff from the Wildlife Division of the Forestry Fee and policemen.

Addressing the push in Accra May well 28, Government Director of the Forestry Commission’s Wildlife Division, Bernard Asamoah-Boateng condemned the killing of the elephant, adding that the regulation must deal with the perpetrators of the crime.

Asamoah-Boateng included that the suspects who are at this time in the police custody pending investigations are expected to be arraigned just before court quickly.

“Despite the Covid-19 pandemic in the state, our personnel is continue to operating tirelessly on the floor to defend our forest reserves” Asamamoah-Boateng emphasised.

He also cautioned poachers and the people of communities along the forest reserves to desist from the killing of guarded animals in forests in the Sissala East District and other sections of the region.

He commended staff members of the Wildlife Division for their endeavours in apprehending the suspects who engaged in these types of illegalities.

Asamoah-Boateng mentioned that his males along the forest reserves will continue to intensify their operations to carry these types of perpetrators to e-book.

He advised the community to report people who have interaction in unlawful hunting inside of their catchment areas to the proper authorities.
