Parliament has frozen acceptance of the Subsidiary Legislation Committee’s report on the Electoral Commission’s controversial Constitutional Instrument (CI).
The CI was to give backing to the Electoral Commission’s quest to compile a new voters’ register but right after the Chairman of the Committee accused the position member of doctoring the report, Parliament could not discussion and approve it on Friday, June 5, 2020 forward of the maturing of the CI on Tuesday.
Deputy Minority Whip, Ibrahim Ahmed advised the Household, Adentan MP, Yaw Buaben Asamoa had edited and deformed the Chairman, Dr Dominic Ayine’s report.
“The report was nicely composed by the Chairman, for each session creating, the Chairman confirmed the report to the Rating Member and the Rating Member cancelled the portions report.
“As we are talking, the Chairman is now composing a different report. If the Position member cancelled portions of the report, then what report are we to debate,” he queried.
Dr Ayine confirmed the accusation.
“My Position Member decided that he was likely to correct my report, which I didn’t have any challenges with but he substantially altered the report this sort of that what he presented to me did not resemble what I had supplied to him to read through above,” he explained.
In accordance to him Mr Buaben Asamoa taken out a whole section which captured the justification for the CI as presented by the Electoral Commission (EC).
Subsequent this criticism, the Speaker, Mike Oquaye mentioned it was not attainable to discussion and approve the CI.
Prof. Oquaye thus, requested the Committee to devote the weekend re-operating its report and provide it back to the flooring for approval on Tuesday.
“We are not in the placement to subjugate the chairman’s position to any other perspective in this particular circumstance. In the situation, the Chairman of the Committee ought to get his members ought to have a seem, as he desires, at the report…”
