For the initial time in its 150-year heritage, the the Metropolitan Museum of Artwork has hired a full-time Indigenous American curator.
Patricia Marroquin Norby has been named Affiliate Curator of Native American Art at The Satisfied.
Norby holds a Ph.D. in American Research from the University of Minnesota-Twin Metropolitan areas, with a specialization in Indigenous American artwork record and visible tradition.
She also earned an MFA from the College of Wisconsin-Madison in printmaking and images.
Norby will work on selection improvement and exhibition programming that focuses on Indigenous arts and is “in dialogue with culturally various manufacturing.”
She is also tasked with overseeing the formation of partnerships with Indigenous American communities, scholars, artists and audiences.
“I am deeply honored to sign up for with American Indian and Indigenous artists and communities in advancing our various ordeals and voices in The Met’s exhibitions, collections, and packages,” Dr. Norby explained in a press launch.
“This is a time of considerable evolution for the Museum.”
Norby has extensive instructing working experience, acquiring served as assistant professor of American Indian Studies at the College of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
There, she taught historical and modern Indigenous American art historical past and culture.
