Alban Bagbin was educated at Wa Secondary University and Tamale Secondary Faculty.

He acquired a Bachelor of Arts diploma in Law and English at the College of Ghana in 1980. He proceeded to the Ghana Faculty of Law at Makola in Accra soon after which he was identified as to the bar in 1982.

Bagbin also attained an Govt Masters in Governance and Leadership from the Ghana Institute of Management and General public Administration (GIMPA).

He gained with 138 votes beating the incumbent, Mike Oquaye who polled 135 votes.
