Anti-LGBT+ Bill Will Get Ghana Blacklisted For Promoting Hate – Gabby Otchere-Darko

Co-founder of the Danquah Institute Gabby Otchere-Darko has been speaking on the bill put before parliament to criminalize LGBT+ activities in the country.

The bill has been hailed by parliament as being a step in the right direction since Ghana’s supposed culture and non-existent moral code frowns upon the very existence of members of the LGBT+ community.

International gay and human rights activists have condemned the bill, with former British MEP Seb Dance calling out Sam George, the leader of the committee that presented the hateful bill to parliament, for insisting on that nothing will stop the bill from being passed.

Gabby Otchere-Darko added his voice to the conversation with a series of tweets. He wrote, “The irony is that we are using a colonial legacy, based on UK’s Offences Against the Person Act 1861, which proscribed something called “unnatural carnal knowledge” as the roots of our moral fibre to enact a law which we say it is to protect us from a foreign threat to our norms!”

He added, “Gay+ activities are already illegal in our country. But, we aren’t known to hate. The President has given his word he won’t legalise it. This Bill only serves one purpose: to get Ghana blacklisted for promoting hate! Surely, the promoters of the Bill can’t say they aren’t aware!”

From Sam George’s stance though, it does not seem that the promoters of this bill are worried about getting blacklisted, which is interesting considering the fact that we can’t seem to stop borrowing from better-off gay-accommodating countries.
