Owner of Napoleon Gold Mine re-arrested over assault and murder of miner


The owner of Napoleon Community Mining Company, Bismark Okrah, popularly known as Aya, has been re-arrested by the Police.

He was arrested yesterday in connection with an assault and murder incident which occurred on his premises but was granted bail after his caution statement was taken only to be re-arrested today.

On Tuesday, two miners were allegedly assaulted by guards working at the Mining Company on suspicion of stealing gold ore from the company.

As a result of the brutal beating, one miner died and the other has been admitted to the Bekwai Hospital.

The wife of the deceased miner, Ama Awandaga told JoyNews’ Nana Yaw Gyimah that her husband was stripped naked and beaten mercilessly.

As part of investigations, the Police, relying on video footage of the incident, have arrested a suspect, Kwame Dapaah, 31. The Police are still searching for others.

Speaking to JoyNews, ASP Godwin Ahianyo of the Ashanti Regional Command said, “the command is advising all those involved in perpetrating that dastardly act to own up or come to the Command in their own interest or be arrested to face the full rigours of the law, since the Police will not condone such distasteful acts in the region.

“The Command is appealing to the people in the area, especially those who witnessed the assault and have any information to share with the Police to call the following numbers, 18555191 or 0291202240.”
