Political Scientist at the University of Ghana, Professor Ransford Yaw Gyampo, says the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei- Mensah-Bonsu, must avoid using force in Parliament when dealing with government business.
In an open letter to the Suame MP, he said the current composition in Parliament requires diplomatic and peaceful approaches to avert government business suffering.
“I sincerely believe that the current Parliament has no room for political hawks in its leadership and that there are some moderate NPP MPs who can lead in Parliament to build bridges and whose utterances won’t be repulsive to genuine efforts at building consensus. That’s why I asked, and I am still asking for your reshuffle,” Prof. Gyampo stated.
The Majority Leader has accused Prof. Gyampo of being a ‘die-hard’ NDC sympathiser after the Political Scientist had called for the reshuffling of the Majority Caucus leadership to avert future fisticuffs in Parliament.
“He should keep his advice to himself with respect to him. Everybody hears his pronouncements, and he’s never condemned the NDC,” Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu retorted.
In response to the Suame MP, the Political Scientist said, “I am responding, not because being tagged NDC or NPP is criminal. I am doing so because you peddled a falsehood.
“Sir, you claimed I haven’t criticised the NDC before. But I want to assume you have either forgotten or you were not in Ghana when the NDC was in power, and cannot also do a simple search of my comments against the Mills/Mahama regime. I, therefore, forgive you.”
Prof. Gyampo added that his previous comment about the Majority Caucus was not borne out of malice or making the NPP unpopular.
Instead, he was out of his duty as a political scientist to subject various regimes to strict proofs and keep them on their toes.
He said it is disingenuous on the part of the Majority Leader to associate himself with criticisms from Political Scientists when in opposition and accuse the same Political Scientist of being in bed with the opposition when in power.
