Social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, is abuzz with celebratory messages as the nation marks the birthday of its inaugural President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
Under the hashtag “Kwame Nkrumah Memorial,” the micro-blogging site is flooded with messages from Ghanaians of all generations, expressing their admiration for Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s selfless leadership during his presidency.
Today’s official public holiday, established in March 2019 through the passage of the Public Holiday Amendment Bill, commemorates this occasion.
Dr. Nkrumah’s pivotal role as the leader of the CPP led to the formation of the government, and subsequently, gained Ghana’s independence from British rule in 1957.
As the nation’s leader, Dr. Nkrumah spearheaded significant socio-economic development initiatives that gave rise to numerous infrastructure projects.
In recognition of his visionary leadership as the country celebrates Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day, many Ghanaians are extolling him as a symbol of hope not only for Ghana but for the entire continent of Africa.
