Mali Coup d’etat: Ghana condemns military services takeover


Ghana has joined the other ECOWAS Member States and the Intercontinental Local community to condemn Mali’s armed forces mutiny.

The incident had resulted in the arrest and subsequent resignation of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, dissolution of his govt and the nationwide Assembly.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey on Thursday, explained the coup d’état in Mali was opposite to the tenets of the ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Excellent Governance and the recognized exercise of constitutional and democratic rule in the region.

“Regrettably, the military motion has eroded the gains made by ECOWAS in the location, specifically attempts to consolidate the democratic credentials of Mali,” Madam Ayorkor Botchwey, who represented President Akufo-Addo at the digital Remarkable Summit of ECOWAS Heads of Condition and Govt, stated.

The Minister stated the condition experienced the opportunity to escalate jihadist activities in the state and the Sahel area in basic.

She mentioned Ghana reiterates its solidarity with the positions expressed by ECOWAS Commission, the African Union and the United Nations Security Council as well as other Global Organisations in rejecting unconstitutional change of authorities in Mali.

She explained the Govt of Ghana supported the simply call for the establishment of a transitional authorities headed by a civilian to oversee the return to normalcy, peace and get as effectively as constitutional rule in Mali as provided for in the country’s Constitution.
